The Death Of Respected Pir

After expressing Sultan Murad III his wish to make pilgrimage to Mecca, Respected Pir made preparations for Pilgrimage and set off. It is related that before Respected Pir set off for pilgrimage, he informed his son about the pregnancy of his wife and the birth of a brother and bequeathed, “It is time for me to walk to Allah. Name my good fortuned son Abdurrahim and undertake his education and spiritual training.” When he arrived to Mecca, he performed the pilgrimage and became a Hajji. Later, he passed to Medina and visited the Ravza (the area around the Prophet’s grave) of Prophet Muhammad. Afterwards, he stopped by Konya and visited the tomb of Saint Mawlana (k.s.a.). There, he called Mawlavi Sheikh and instructed him as follows:

“I am going to walk to Allah from here, so preparations for my funeral will be done here. But, my funeral will be submitted to the committee who shall come from Istanbul.” Afterwards, he fell ill and died there in the year 1001 after the migration of Prophet Muhammad when he was 120 years old.

After the funeral prayer, the governor of Konya wanted to disinfect his corpse to prevent putrefying, however his students opposed this and insisted on their claim of “The corpse of a Pir never putrefies.” So, governor had no choice but to accept.

His sons Mustafa and Abdulaziz come to Konya after receiving a spiritual sign about their father’s death. As a matter of fact, the corpse of Respected Pir was kept in Konya for 14 days until his sons arrived, but it showed no sign of putrefying. Instead, a fragrance continued to spread from his corpse.

As per their father’s will, his sons placed their father’s funeral to an ox carriage and left Konya to go to Istanbul. Pir Aziz Mahmud Hudai was among the people who came to welcome Respected Pir’s funeral in Uskudar. Sultan Murad III placed rafts to the shore in Uskudar which is still called as “ox pier” to provide a seaway to Istanbul, so that ox doesn’t stop when passing across. The ox carriage landed on Dolmabahce, walked to Kasımpasha and stopped on front of today’s tomb. A grave was opened for Respected Pir in his dergah and he was buried there.
